Crowdfunding update – 1 year after

It's been a year since I opened up about my financial situation, my Corona debt.

 

 -What happened this year?

-Where do we stand financially?
-What’s the status of the company & shop? 

 
These are the questions many of you have asked, and I’m here to answer them.

Last year, when I opened up about the struggles Amsterdam Cupcake Company faced, I was overwhelmed by the response. The story was picked up by various media outlets, which gave me a much wider reach than I ever expected. It was overwhelming, to be honest. RTL-Z came by with a crew, Financieel Dagblad wrote about us, and De Ondernemer did a deep-dive interview. I was terrified of how people would react—after all, who openly talks about their debts? I felt, and to some extent still felt, a bit ashamed. But what I found was that many others were struggling too, and sharing my story brought a sense of relief.

Sure, there were some harsh comments, blaming me for the situation. But overall, the support from people like you was incredible. Thank you for that!

I launched a crowdfunding campaign, and thanks to your generosity, I was able to cover nearly half of the debt. Fast forward through the year (because I don’t want to turn this into a novel!), I made the tough decision to close the physical shop and transform Amsterdam Cupcake Company into a full-time e-bakery. This allowed me to cut down on prep work, reduce waste, and operate with fewer hands. I also streamlined the menu, focusing on the flavors you love the most and cutting out the ones that were less popular or too time-consuming.

In a nutshell: I made huge strides in efficiency, and that process is still ongoing. I’m integrating automation where possible, exploring AI solutions, and most importantly, focusing on what truly makes me happy—creating, baking, and delivering the most delicious, beautiful treats to you.

So what’s next?
The shop is closed, but the bakery is thriving online. You can still pick up your orders directly from the bakery—just be sure to place your order the morning before (or, even better, a few days in advance).

Financially…
I’ve arranged a payment plan to settle the remaining debt. It’s not fully behind me yet, but there’s finally light at the end of the tunnel—October 2025, to be exact.
