Hi you,
When I was about seven years old, I built my own little library.
I had collected magazines from my grandmother, my aunt and my parents — Libelle, Story, Margriet… And my parents could “borrow” a magazine from me. For ten cents a day.
They still tell that story with a smile, but I actually find it really sweet: even back then, I wanted to create something that was mine. A small system. A mini world. With rules, with trading, with value.
Not long after that, I started swapping shopping cart coins for Douwe Egberts points so I could save up for a dinnerware set. And trust me — I found the most creative ways to get those coins, because at one point it was a real craze.
Looking back now, I can see it so clearly: that entrepreneurial energy was always in me. The drive to build, to puzzle, to improve, to sell — in a way that feels good and true to me.
And that’s exactly what I’m feeling again right now.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been so busy with our rebrand. Not just a new logo (that I still catch myself staring at), but also a webshop that’s slowly getting a complete new look.
New colours. A new flow. A way of browsing and finding things that feels much more like what you would want as a customer — instead of how I once designed it as a baker.
Maybe that’s been my biggest growth as an entrepreneur: I’m getting better and better at seeing through your eyes. What do you need? Where do you want to click next? What do you want to see at a glance? It sounds obvious — but it’s a skill I really had to learn.
And because I find entrepreneurship so fascinating, I now share my lessons through another branch of my business: my Bakademie.
For fellow baking entrepreneurs who want to grow, work smarter, and build their own version of success — without losing themselves along the way.
I’d love to invite you to take a look at my dedicated Bakademie website. There you’ll find a range of online courses — from baking with my recipes and methods through step-by-step video lessons, to a course designed to help you become more efficient and confident in your baking business.
Love,
Faryel
